Itch were the brains behind the Barisieur, a sleek automatic coffee machine and alarm clock. The team at Barisieur had worked with an array of product development firms in the UK but to no avail. Cue Itch to save the day. One of the major advantages of working with Itch is our capability to not only design and engineer a product, but also design for manufacture. We are not here just to produce a concept that gathers dust on the shelf: we make the most of our extensive supply chain network and our team based in Asia to get your product off of the design floor and on to the shop floor. In the case of the Barisieur, we sourced the ideal manufacturing partner and worked together to produce a safe and cost effective design. Safety was paramount, as the coffee machine used a custom design pressure vessel.
With safety comes paperwork and certification, and the Barisieur's unique design created some challenges. To allow for the product to be imported into the country of sale, you must define the product's specification and the category it fits into. This informs the design team what compliance standards it needs to adhere to, and can be a very expensive and complicated process in a standard LVD (Low Voltage Directive) product. But the Barisieur is not just a coffee machine. It has a milk cooler, induction coil and an alarm clock. Itch worked with the certified test house to combine these different standards to make a custom safety standard to classify the product as safe for sale - all within a tight budget that suited the customer.
